Audio Stories: Data Privacy and Security in Healthcare

There are many parts to understanding the rules and protections for health information. I spoke to three people who deal with protected health information. Daniel Aranki, a faculty member of the School of Information at the University of California Berkeley, David Holtzman, former senior IT specialist with the Department of Health and Human Services, and Jennifer Searfoss, chief legal and compliance officer with Foot and Ankle Specialists Mid-Atlantic.

Aranki and I talked about the vulnerabilities within the healthcare industry and how it continues to improve. Holtzman and I discussed how the government established privacy regulations and liability for violating them. Searfoss offered insights into some of the biggest threats to health data security.
